Le premier album de Norman Would est à l'image de sa pochette, entre chien et loup, portant dans la nuit naissante les émotions et les souvenirs d'un songwriter imprégné d'une précédente vie au coeur du Midwest.

« Out of the Blue » est l'histoire d'un homme et de titres qui tournent en tête pendant des années avant d'être envahi par l'envie de les faire entendre au plus grand nombre et de les enregistrer.

La décision fut prise quasiment du jour au lendemain. La rencontre avec le Britannique Joshua Hudes et la complicité qui s'en dégage rejaillit sur un disque qui évite le piège de la débauche d'arrangements.

Ensemble, les chrysalides acoustiques ont mué en de magnifiques papillons de folk americana sublimés par l'apport d'un violon, de batteries à l'économie, d'un violoncelle et d'un trombone sur quelques titres, d'une basse, bien sûr et même d'un archer électrique.

« Joshua Hudes, qui a produit l'album, a bien su comprendre d'où je venais musicalement tout en proposant des arrangements auxquels je n'aurais pas forcément pensé, confesse Norman Would.

J'aimais bien l'idée d'arriver en studio sans savoir précisément ce qui allait se passer. On avait commencé à envisager certains de ces instruments à l'écoute des démos que j'avais enregistrées chez moi, sans être fermés à ce que le processus d'enregistrement et la part d'improvisation qui s'y rattache pouvait amener aux arrangements », déclarait-il dans les colonnes de french-o-rama.

« Out of the Blue » est un disque ouvert, franc, une prise de conscience relevant d'une profonde envie de se lancer dans la plus belle des aventures musicales, un album, des concerts, en se laissant porté par l'inattendu et l’instant présent.

La version Deluxe de cet « Out of the Blue » offre en bonus quatre titres dont la vivacité a amené les deux compères à les enregistrer en version beaucoup plus électrique, plus « noisy ». Le titre « Hologram » est longtemps resté sur le fil pour finalement rester dans une version plus « boisée ».

Deuxième série de titres dénichés dans les tiroirs et placards de Dick Turner, crooner invétéré, poète mésestimé tourné vers un idéal retranscrit dans l'équivalent d'un quatre pistes, voire moins... des chansons, des tubes, des mélodies entêtantes qui ne demandent rien d'autre que d'être écoutées et appréciées pour ce qu'elles sont...de bonnes chansons... des pop songs. La pochette de cette nouvelle série de titres figure comme d'habitude des portraits réalisés par l'artiste lui-même. Les quatre personnages appartiennent à une série intitulée 'La donne' qui en compte huit au total.

Norman Would's debut album cover tells it all, conveying the songwriter's emotions imbued with the memories of a previous life in the heart of the Midwest.

"Out of the Blue" tells the story of a man. The album's songs turned inside his head for years until he was subdued by the desire of recording them to let the greater number ear them.

The decision was made almost overnight. Meeting with British producer Joshua Hudes lead to a complicity that innerves the full album. The pair successly avoided the trap of the over-arrangements, even.

Together, they brought the acoustic chrysalis to a beautiful breed of Americana butterflies with the contributions of a violin, lazy drums, a cello and a trombone sometimes, a bass guitar as well, and an e-bow.

"Joshua Hudes, who produced the album, was able to understand where I came from musically while providing arrangements that I would not necessarily have thought of, confesses Norman Would.

I liked the idea of ​​entering the studio without knowing exactly what was going to happen. We had ideas of bringing some instruments while listening to the demos that I had recorded at home, without prejudices, did he tell french-o-rama blog.

As a result, the recording process and a large share of improvisation lead to the arrangements on the album.

The act of birth of this Captain Americano circles around French, Américan and Chilean territories finding its path between grunge, punk rock and power pop.

This new ante-future superhero is the new kind of a generation... the one that scrambles the last 30 years of rock music into a lively and furious set of references. Tracks were mixed in Los Angeles with Eagles of Death Metal's Jesse Hughes and they will be released in two parts.

A rough series of incadescent songs set to become anthems.

Pokett's critically acclaimed first album, Crumble, was released in october 2004. French weekly cultural magazine Telerama rated it 4ƒ, while monthly pop magazine MAGIC ! described it as "One of the best records issued in France this season". On the web, Etherreal invited their readers to "Imagine an Elliott Smith album produced by Jim O Rourke".

Stéphane Garry wrote, composed and recorded the songs with Sandrine Boyer, Clemence Freschard (Kreuzberg Museum, ...), Bertrand Groussard (King Q4), Stephane Laporte (Domotic, Egyptology,..), Laurent Vaissiere (Paloma). The mastering was conducted by Emiliano Flores (My Jazzy Child, François Virot, Olivier Lamm, ...).

Back then, Crumble was only released on CD via Intercontinental Records in France, Scientific Laboratories in Ireland and Wireless Records in Australia.

Technology and recording techniques have since evolved prompting Stephane Garry to give a second life to his sophomore opus. He remastered the whole album and partnered with Quixotemusic to release it.

Passionate about the sound and warmth offered by vinyl, Stephane considered it would be the occasion to upgrade the sampling rate from the CD version and offer a nice double LP.

With a total length around 48 minutes, the quality of sound and the tracklisting sequence meant at least three sides so that songs could literally breathe. Sound restitution would also benefit from less compression, both figuratively and technically.

Then arose the matter of the fourth side. Stephane Garry and Quixotemusic decided to celebrate the release by offering previously unreleased or rare tracks from Pokett's library. The choice went down to tracks from the limited edition of Your Picture Here EP that was hand manufactured at the time.

Walls, Rain On, Yours and Sand were picked up and another rare tracks made available on a Radio Campus Paris compilation... Aspirin #5.

The cover for this double 180gr gatefold LP was completely redesigned in the spirit of the original version, and pictures cleaned to meet the dimensions and pleasure of the object.

The 4th studio LP of the Orleans' born and bred power rock'n'roll band is due in september.

The bright and tough production of The End Never Dreams will definitely seduce soul garage rock devotees.

Ten years of career and three albums helped build the band a reputation of acute live energy and exceptional stage presence of their frontman Sam.

The soul rock combo remains gifted with powerful and groovy melodies scooped with a unique energy on the French garage music scene. They're drawn to highly referential songwriting and harmony gurus such as the Yardbirds, the Rolling Stones, the Zombies or the Clash. But they could as easily be compared to a Nordic fringe of high voltage rockers like the International Noise Conspiracy or Refused.

They perform as if it was the ast time, their intimate story as a band looking very much like a post-cold war Soviet soap opera.

It's been four years since their last LP, Amen. They're back with an ardent LP introduced by the singled Jack Bauer, which won't be featured on the LP. The B side, Down the Scene, though, will be opening The End Never Dreams, both songs serving as a launchpad for the album...
